The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is the newest all-electric SUV in the market, and the German carmaker is already taking orders. The first lineup for this model came out in 2020, and it is among the most luxurious vehicles of its kind. There are three trims available in this lineup, where the basic trims come with a rear-wheel drive (RWD), and the flagship model is an all-wheel drive (AWD). The new ID. 4’s battery pack ranges between 410km (AWD) and 443km (RWD). The flagship model has a smaller range but a much stronger performance. 

In the city, this vehicle makes between 18.2 kWh/100km (RWD) and 20.1 kWh/100km (AWD). Highway conditions take 21.3 kWh/100km from RWD models and 22.6 kWh /100 km from AWDs.

The ID. 4’s Instant Torque system delivers a quiet but swift acceleration, going from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds for the flagship model. All trims have a torque capacity of 229 lb-ft, while horsepower goes from 201 hp on basic models to 229 hp in the ID.4 Pro AWD. The whole lineup has a towing capacity of 1,224.6 kg. 


Interior and Exterior


This year’s lineup has upgraded interior design and features to make everyone’s journey more comfortable. This spacious SUV has a considerably extended range, and all seats have plenty of legroom and headspace to provide comfort even during long journeys. 

There are two options for upholstery: cloth and leatherette. It’s also possible to choose the upholstery colour for an additional fee; eight colours are available. All models come with heated front seats, a leatherette-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and interior ambient lighting, which can be customised with ten different colours. The temperature is controlled by a dual-zone electronic AC equipped with an enhanced air filter.

All trims also come with black roof rails, automatic LED reflector headlights, running lights, illuminated door handles, and heated windshields. As for wheels, there are 19” Drammen alloy wheels for all trims, with an option for Multi-spoke aerodynamic wheels. The flagship model can opt for 20” Electra alloy wheels. 


Tech and Safety


The new ID.4 comes with lavish tech options and plenty of driving assists. All models come with a 12” touchscreen display for navigation. There’s also a 5.3” digital display with ID.Cockpit. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and satellite radio are available for all trims. 

There’s a list of more than ten driving assists available for each trim. Basic features include park distance control, blindspot monitor, dynamic road sign display, tire pressure monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. There are also airbags available for the front seats. 


Trims and Price Range


There are three trims available for this lineup, which can be customised by additional packages, including tech features, better wheels, etc. The basic price for the basic trim, ID.4, is $43,995, while the middle tier, ID.4 Pro, has a price tag of $47,995. The ID.4 Pro AWD will cost $52,995.
